1. Title: [podfic] i was kind of hoping you'd stay
Rating: T
Pairing: Travis Konecny/Nolan Patrick
Tags/content warnings: rule 63, friends to lovers, slow burn
Estimated final audio length: 1 hour 20 min
Summary: from the original fic (
https://archiveofourown.org/works/23747155)
Nolan spends the first couple of days of her summer rollerblading, partying with her friends, going to bonfires, and acting like an alternate universe version of herself.
TK spends the first couple of days of her summer fishing, hunting, and texting Nolan more than she's ever texted anyone in her life.
Then she goes to Winnipeg.
2. Title: to lie in whatever grass remains
Rating: T
Pairing: Erik Johnson/Nathan MacKinnon
Tags/content warnings: no archive warnings apply. alternate universe - farm/ranch. friends with benefits to lovers. internalized homophobia. father-son relationship. rural queers. [additional characters: Paul Kariya, Bo Byram, Sidney Crosby]
Estimated final word count: 18,000 words
Summary: And just like they have for the last five Springs, they slip back into it, as easy together as they’ve always been.
Excerpt: They have this moment every year, and every time it feels like it did that first night Nate had followed him back to the barn and asked if he could kiss him. Even though he knows it’s coming–hopes it’s coming–there’s always the uncertainty that something might have changed.
“Are you seeing anybody?” Nate asks, and EJ laughs like it’s the most ridiculous question in the world. Maybe it is.
“The only person I ever see around here is you.”
It’s not what Nate’s asking. It’s never been anything more than hooking up for them, but casual is all EJ’s ever gonna get anyways, and it’s nice Nate wants to fall back into it. The first couple years EJ would turn the question back on him. “I was for awhile,” Nate had said the last time, and EJ hadn’t been sure if the twinge of jealousy had been about Nate dating someone else or about Nate having the opportunity to date anyone at all.
He’s sure now, but he doesn’t ask any more. Someday when Nate’s done bouncing around for school he’ll find someone serious to settle down with. He’s a forever kind of guy. EJ’s just happy to get any part of Nate he’s willing to share.
Nate hooks a finger into the front of EJ’s jeans and tugs until their knees knock. “Okay, good,” Nate says, crowding him into the bathroom counter. “Me, too.”
And just like they have for the last five Springs, they slip back into it, as easy together as they’ve always been.
3. Title: The Proposal
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Matthew Tkachuk/Leon Draisaitl
Tags/content warnings: Proposal AU, Fake Dating, Swearing
Estimated final word count: 30,000ish
Summary: For years Matthew has worked for a demon of a boss, now his demon of a boss needs his help. So now he's off to visit his family that he has barely seen for years because of his boss, with the man in tow as his fake fiance.
or it's a Proposal AU
Excerpt: He knows that if he was outside of this office he would see the entire floor scurry to look busy as their editor in chief walked by. Last year he made an intern cry when he caught her not doing work. He didn't become one of the youngest editors in chiefs in publishing by being a pushover, but god did they all hate him.
Janets teams gives Matthew just enough warning to straighten out his borrowed shirt and tie, the blue really clashes with the blue, and is standing by the door with coffee in hand when Leon walks in briskly in his tan suit and matching pea coat as New York is still brushing off the last of winter.
Leon Draisaitl, German transplant by way of Canada. Youngest Editor-in-Chief to ever work for the company. Matthew can't figure out what he was doing up there in Canada yet and what brought him to North America and at such a young age, even after years of them working together. Went to college at Penn State, majoring in English. Hot. Has piercing blues eyes, a jawline that won't quit, and only the slightest traces of a German accent in his words. His years spent in the great white north are betrayed when he says things like sorry (very rarely) or pasta (more often, what with the late nights that they pull and Leons love affair with Italian take out). He is built like a fridge, and the only reason that Matthew is saved from having an unfortunate and inappropriate office crush on him is because his personality and attitude should have landed him in HR forever ago (i.e. making the intern cry last year). He would like to think that he has some standards, and thirsting after his boss who wouldn't hesitate to humiliate and verbally eviscerate him definitely is below those standards.
"Good morning Leon." Matthew says smoothly, handing over the coffee in his hand to the older man.
Leon takes the coffee without missing a beat, like he expects it to be there, like it has been for the last four years Matthew has worked for him.
4. Title: this place ain't the same without you
Rating: T
Pairing: Jack Hughes/Ty Smith
Tags/content warnings: magical realism, curses, angst with a happy ending, mentions of nonconsensual drugging (does not actually happen)
Estimated final word count: ~12-14k words
Summary: Jack and Ty are at dinner with a few of the guys when Jack drops the news that he's kicking Ty out of their apartment so Luke can move in. They're still at the restaurant when Jack disappears, and Ty is the only one who remembers he ever existed. Meanwhile, Jack wakes up alone in a life that isn't his.
Excerpt: Maybe he shouldn’t be so upset. Ty knows Jack better than anyone – he thought he did, anyway – so he knows Jack isn’t the most socially aware. He’s charming, and everyone loves him, but he tends to live with his head beneath the sand and it doesn’t always serve him well.
It doesn’t stop Ty from being angry. He knows he’ll calm down soon enough, and he tries splashing water on his face to make it happen faster, but right now he’s hurt and all he wants to do is punch the mirror in front of him. How can Jack be so selfish? How does Ty keep forgetting that he’s always been like this?
He thinks back to when Jack sent him a copy of the lease on their apartment to sign before Ty had even agreed to live with him. They’d talked about the possibility, but Jack never actually asked Ty if he was sure he wanted to live with him or if he wanted to at least see the place first. At the time, he’d found it kind of funny – he hadn’t had any real preference on where to live, after all, and he figured he’d be a good counter to Jack’s impulsiveness. The perfect roommate.
In hindsight, maybe that should’ve been a red flag.
If Jack were just a friend, Ty doesn’t think he’d feel so hurt right now. And Jack
is just a friend, on paper, but Ty’s so gone for him that he has to remind himself it isn’t really true. Sure, they live together, and sure, they’ve spent plenty of late nights cuddling while watching Netflix, and sure, sometimes Jack looks at him with so much fondness in his gaze that Ty starts to wonder
what if. But none of it means anything, and once the season ends, it’s all over.
5. Title: no final stand, no greater plan
Rating: M (possibly E, possibly T, unsure)
Pairing: Taylor Hall/Nico Hischier
Tags/content warnings: No content warnings. tags: getting together, second chances,
Estimated final word count: 30-40k
Summary: Taylor joins the Devils in 2028 and gets a second chance with Nico who he loved when they played together but felt like he couldn't/shouldn't say anything at the time.
Excerpt: "Put that down and get in here for a hug," Jack says, holding his arms open.
Taylor does as he's asked and hugs Jack who holds on a little longer than Taylor anticipated.
"It's good to have you back, Hallsy," he says into Taylor's ear.
"Thanks Jack," Taylor says when they pull back. "A lot has changed since I was here, huh?"
"Yeah," Jack says. "But it's a good group. You'll like them. Come on, I'll take you out back."
Taylor follows Jack into a huge and well landscaped backyard. There's a beautiful brick patio backed by a huge grassy expanse lined with bushes and trees and flowers. There's a golden retriever running around playing fetch with one of the younger guys that Taylor doesn't know. Kevan maybe? A chocolate lab puppy runs up to Taylor wagging his tail. Taylor kneels down to pet him.
"Hey little guy! What's your name?" Taylor asks, scratching the dog's ears.
Jack laughs above him. "This is Asbury. The golden is Belmar."
"You named your dogs after Jersey shore towns?" Taylor asks, laughing.
Jack just shrugs. "Jersey is my home and I wanted a piece of that when I'm at my other home in the summer and maybe if I retire back in Michigan."
"If?"
"Well, it's still a long way away, but I've spent most of my adult life here and my wife's from here. Schools are good here."
"I can't believe you're someone who is thinking about how good schools are now," Taylor says with a laugh. "It feels like you were just a kid five minutes ago."
"Well, we're getting old Hallsy," Jack says. "Well maybe not as old as you." Jack winks at him.
6. Title: How to court your Omega without realizing it
Rating: T
Pairing: RigYanni (Jamie "Big Rig" Oleksiak/Yanni Gourde), background Larsdunn
Tags/content warnings: Omegaverse, alpha Jamie, omega Yanni, courting, men being oblivious, fluff, bit of angst and lots of fluff, no big archive warnings
Estimated final word count: 10K
Summary: Three times Jamie makes Yanni feel better without either of them realizing the gestures could be considered courting, and the one time these two idiots realize it.
Excerpt: The stench hits him the second he’s through the door, his hackles rising instantly, every instinct honing in.
Distressed Omega.Shit, what happened?
Closing the door carefully and stepping fully inside, Jamie finds the locker room empty even though the stench is definitely fresh. Taking another whiff, it’s easy to pick out the scent underneath.
“Yanni? You here?”
There’s no reply but he can hear sniffling and rustling from the direction of the showers, and, shit, what the fuck?
“Yanni?”
Not waiting for a reply, he crosses the room to the showers, then nearly stumbles over his teammate, who’s slumped right beside the entry of the bathroom area, back against the wall, knees pulled close to his chest and arms wound around them.
“Shit, buddy,” Jamie breathes out, heart in his throat. “You okay?”
“Peachy,” Yanni gripes, no bite in his voice, just dejection.
And that is… Jamie doesn’t know if he can say
that’s worse because, of course, he’s glad that Yanni seems unharmed. It’s just that, well. If it were something physical, he would at least know to get a trainer or a doctor. This, however, seems to be something else.
Hesitating, Jamie soon gives in to his instincts, sliding down the wall to sit next to the distressed omega.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Yeah, very believable. But it’s Yanni he’s dealing with here – the guy who will smile with a bloody mouth and laugh when he’s hurting. He can’t remember ever seeing Yanni just… give in to his emotions. Well, except anger on the ice, of course.
Thinking about it for a moment, Jamie pulls out the paper bag from his jacket while surreptitiously opening it so his scent can flow more freely. He has no blockers on today, so hopefully his calming scent will help his friend. Pulling out the triple chocolate muffin, he breaks off a piece and puts it in his mouth. Yanni doesn’t move, doesn’t look, but when Jamie offers him the next piece, he takes it with hardly any hesitation.
7. Title: Showjumping AU [working title]
Rating: Explicit, I think, but maybe mature
Pairing: Jamie Drysdale/Trevor Zegras
Tags/content warnings: Alternate Universe - Not Hockey Players; Alternate Universe - Equestrians; Underage Drinking; Fast-Tracked Enemies to Friends; Friends to Lovers; Misunderstandings; Original Characters
Estimated final word count: 30,000 words
Summary: Jamie has the opportunity of a lifetime to spend the summer horseshowing under the instruction of Olympic champion Ellen Hughes, but there's just one problem: Trevor Zegras, his sworn nemesis, is riding with her too.
Excerpt: Once he walks out, Trevor and Selene walk in. It’s different than their equitation class this morning, a little less beautiful, but no less breathtaking. Selene is an incredible horse: she’s fast, powerful, smart; Trevor doesn’t make a lot of mistakes but whenever he does, she makes up for it.
It’s the kind of horse Jamie used to dream about. He loves Smokey, and Smokey’s taken him farther than Jamie thought he’d be able to go, but Smokey is a workhorse. He’s smart, sure, and powerful, and willing to go fast when Jamie asks just right, but everything they do together is work. Meaningful work. Fun work. Work Jamie enjoys, but work nonetheless. Trevor is talented, no doubt about it, but anyone could ride Selene, Jamie thinks, and come out on top.
Jamie can’t imagine how much she cost to buy. Or lease, maybe, although the way Trevor talks about her, he doesn’t think it’s a lease. In another favor from a friend of his dad’s, Jamie is borrowing Smokey more than anything else. They’ve been together for the last few years, and they probably won’t get separated before Jamie is ready for a new horse, but it’s different riding a horse that isn’t yours.
Plus, there’s always a chance this is his last summer riding. With his dad’s retirement, Jamie’s looking at paying his own way forward from here. And show jumping isn’t a cheap sport. Not for the first time since, he thinks about how much he could’ve done with that $10,000 prize back in Florida. He frowns and forces his brain to tune back into Trevor’s round.
Trevor’s soaring over the fourth jump of the jump off, Selene moving around the ring like there’s a fire lit behind her. It’s only ten more seconds before they’re done — in two seconds fewer than Jamie and Smokey managed.
Of fucking course.
8. Title: There’s a Dragon in the NHL
Rating: G
Pairing: Tom Wilson/Dylan Strome
Tags/content warnings: Caps ensemble, Hybrid AU, caps shenanigans, boys kissing, cuddling, drinking, mutual pining
Estimated final word count: 10,000+
Summary: Dylan Strome wasn’t immune to the rumors, but this one always sounded too out-of-this-world to be true. He’s seen his fair share of strange Guides, but a dragon? Dragons weren’t real. At least, that’s what he thought before he was traded to the Washington Capitals, where the rumors started. And as he adapts to the feral chaos of his new team, he finds himself searching for this dragon, with no help from his teammates, who made it known on day one that their lips were sealed.
On top of all that, Dylan gets a little too close to Tom Wilson. He tells himself that it’s only natural for cat hybrids to confide in one another, as their Guides are typically more elusive than others. Plus, Tom is warm. Very warm. Too warm to be a regular cat, Dylan thinks.
Excerpt: He actually forgot about it at first. Too many things were on his mind; moving, new teammates, new city, new everything, questioning himself and his play and why Chicago didn’t resign him, how he was going to be better, and everything in between. It wasn’t until he had met most of everyone on the team and learned what some of their Guides were that he finally remembered.
“Where’s the dragon?” he asked at camp, half joking, half curious. He received a few interesting reactions, Carlson raising an eyebrow, Oshie grinning, and Ovi immediately cackling. Nicky was staring into his soul.
“No dragon here today,” Oshie said simply, skating in circles around him a couple times before tapping him on the leg with his stick and taking off. Dylan turned to Carlson in hopes of receiving a non-cryptic answer. The veteran just shrugged, expression unreadable.
“He’s not here yet,” was all Dylan got from him, and Ovi didn’t really answer him either. He only flashed a wide smile and glided over to ‘lightly’ bump into him.
“For him to come here,” Ovi whispered loudly, Dylan had since learned there wasn’t a quiet bone in his brick shit-house body, “you have to say
‘pspspspsps’.”
Dylan smiled at the ridiculousness of his new captain, his silly mood contagious. “That doesn’t even work on
me.”
Ovi laughed, slapping him on the shoulder, and Dylan felt every bit of that grizzly bear strength.
Both him and Carlson skated away, and that left him with Nicky. Dylan would have guessed he was the dragon if he didn’t already know that his Guide was a golden eagle. It made sense, with his staring and all.
“Will you tell me who it is?” Dylan asked, and he couldn’t help how curious he was. It was the cat in him.
Nicky stared for a few seconds longer, unblinking and intense. Dylan swears to this day he saw a hint of a smile.
“Rule number one,” Nicky began, “Never tell a dragon’s secrets.”
9. Title: Summer Skin
Rating: T (maybe very light M)
Pairing: Fraser Minten/James Hagens, Connor Bedard/Fraser Minten, Connor Bedard/Aiden Celebrini (one-sided)
Tags/content warnings: no content warnings
Estimated final word count: 10k-12k max
Summary: James wasn't Connor. Fraser wasn't so sure he needed to be. (working summary: Fraser reminisces about his summer relationship with Connor, who may or may not have a crush on Aiden Celebrini. He hooks up with James Hagens visiting Boston on a break. The two are more endeared to each other than he expected.)
Excerpt: James was prettier in person.
Fraser blinked at him. He’d heard a ton of commotion from where he was seated at the bar, just assuming a group of dumb college kids had wandered in looking to get shitfaced. He vaguely remembered it was the summer, and half of Boston’s population had already headed out. When he turned around he hadn’t expected to see a handful of prospects nudging each other and giggling over something on their phone.
One in the middle had looked up - average size, a little bit stocky. His bright blue eyes had immediately met Fraser’s.
Something had twisted tight in Fraser’s chest. He looked a little like Connor, but softer somehow.
“Hey,” James had said, approaching him with a grin splitting his face wide. “You’re Fraser Minten, right?”
It took Fraser a minute to remember that he was in fact Fraser Minten. “Yeah, that’s me.” He gave James a thumbs up, regretting the gesture almost immediately.
James continued to beam. “Awesome. I’m James Hagens. We’re gonna be teammates.”
Someday Fraser thought to himself. There was no way James
wasn’t returning to Boston College in the fall. Fraser had heard chatter amongst the other guys that were in for an optional skate being run alongside the prospect camp. Hagens had impressed, but not enough that management wanted to risk signing him. He would do better to wait out the six months, take another shot at some wins, go play in World Juniors.
Fraser lifted his beer. “Nice. Looking forward to it.”
